How to Move FIGR Shares Between Your Brokerage and OPEN
What this guide covers
Through OPEN – the On-chain Public Equity Network – Figure Technology Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: FIGR) (OPEN: FGRS) shares can be moved between traditional brokerages and Figure Markets, where they exist on-chain as FGRS and trade on the Figure ATS, an Alternative Trading System operated by Figure Securities, Inc (FSI). This guide walks you through how the process works, what steps you'll take on Figure Markets, what you'll need to ask your brokerage to do, and what timelines to expect.
Your brokerage’s internal processes will vary by broker; this guide focuses on what you can do directly and what you'll need to ask for. A companion guide, "What to Expect When You Call Your Brokerage", covers brokerage processes in more detail.
Before you start
You will need:
- A Figure Markets account and wallet. Sign up at figuremarkets.com -– the process will take approximately 5 minutes, and requires standard KYC. For a transfer to be successful, your account must be in good standing with Figure Markets.
- Must have completed the investment profile questionnaire for account acceptance by Figure Securities, Inc.
- Access to your FIGR shares held in a brokerage account, over which you have discretion.
- Access to your brokerage account and your brokerage account number.
- Some time on the phone with your brokerage firm: see "How the process works", below.
How the process works
Transferring your shares from your brokerage firm to OPEN has two coordinated steps.
-
THE PUSH (from your brokerage firm):
You instruct your brokerage firm to send your FIGR shares to Figure Markets via a DTC Free-of-Payment (FOP) transfer. This typically happens by phone: you'll call your brokerage and ask to speak to the asset transfer team. -
The PULL (by Figure Markets):
You tell Figure Markets to expect the incoming transfer. You'll do this in your Figure Markets account before or alongside your call to your brokerage firm.
Both sides have to be initiated for the transfer to complete. Once they are, the Figure Markets team monitors for the arrival of your shares. Our custodian receives the shares, and they're credited to your Figure Markets account as FGRS, usually within one business day, and often on the same day.
Moving shares from your brokerage to OPEN (FIGR → FGRS)
- Log in to your Figure Markets account at https://www.figuremarkets.com. Navigate to Funding & Transfers, then click Exchange Shares.
- On mobile, tap on the FGRS equity icon on the homepage. This can be found under the “Stocks” section. On the FGRS screen, tap the 3 dots on the top right.
- Next, select To Blockchain. Figure Markets will display the To Blockchain instructions – these are the details your brokerage firm needs to complete the transfer (DTC participant number, agent ID, DTC brokerage name, and the number of shares you wish to exchange). Have these ready when you call your brokerage firm.
- If you’re on mobile, tap Exchange to Blockchain.
- Call your brokerage firm. Ask to speak with their Account Transfer team or the Operations Department. Tell them you'd like to send a DTC Free-of-Payment (FOP) transfer to Figure. Share the receiving instructions issued to you from Figure Markets.
Tip: "Account Transfer team" and "DTC FOP transfer” to Figure are the recommended phrases to use. Most brokerage firm frontline agents will recognize them and route you correctly, though please note that each firm varies.
- Your brokerage firm may require additional documentation (including potentially filling out authorization forms). Complete and return whatever they ask for.
- Back in the Figure Markets app/webpage, you'll be asked to provide your brokerage firm details – your brokerage firm's DTC participant number, your account number, and the share amount being transferred., a broker can have multiple DTC numbers. This means it is very important that you confirm your brokerage firm’s DTC participant number with them before finalizing your details with Figure Markets. This information allows Figure Markets to accurately anticipate the details of the incoming transfer. Once you have verified that all of your details are correct, please review the information again and submit.
- If you are on mobile, tap “Preview exchange”, confirm the details, then tap “Exchange to FGRS”.
- Figure Markets will begin monitoring for the incoming transfer after the form is fully submitted. When your brokerage firm processes the outbound FOP and the shares arrive at our custodian, Figure Markets credits your account with FGRS. If you have any questions or concerns about timing, please contact the Figure support team.
Moving shares from OPEN back to your brokerage (FGRS → FIGR)
The reverse flow is simpler, most of the work happens on Figure Markets.
- In Figure Markets, navigate to Funding & Transfers → Exchange Shares → To Brokerage.
- Enter your brokerage firm's DTC participant number, your account number at the firm, and the amount of FGRS you'd like to convert back to FIGR. A brokerage firm can have multiple DTC numbers. IMPORTANT:Please confirm your brokerage firm’s DTC participant number prior to submitting your details to Figure Markets.
- Review and submit the request. Approve through the Figure Markets mobile app if prompted.
- Contact your brokerage firm and instruct them to accept a free-of-payment transfer. Brokerages will not accept unless given prior notice. Please provide all the information on your screen to your broker, if the “Brokerage Acceptance” screen appears.
- Figure Markets initiates the outbound transfer to your brokerage. Shares typically appear in your brokerage account within one business day as FIGR.
What to expect: timeline and fees
- Settlement: typically occurs within one business day. Some transfers settle the same day; others may take 2-3 business days, depending on your brokerage firm and documentation requirements.
- DTC Transfer Fees: vary. Some do not have fees for outbound DTC FOP transfers; others charge a flat fee. Confirm with your brokerage firm when you place the request.
- Figure Markets does not charge an exchange fee for moving shares between FIGR and FGRS.
These times may vary. If you have any questions on the time frame, please contact the brokerage firm who is receiving the shares.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to call my brokerage?
Many brokerage firms handle outbound DTC FOP transfers through their account transfer team or operations department, rather than through a self-service web flow. Only a handful of brokerage firms offer a form within their online portal. For the rest, a phone call is the standard process.
Do I need a Figure Markets account before I start?
Yes. You need to be logged into Figure Markets to see the receiving instructions you'll give your brokerage, and to notify Figure Markets of the incoming transfer. Sign up at figuremarkets.com or using the Figure Markets app first.
What's the difference between FIGR and FGRS?
FIGR is the ticker for Figure Technology Solutions, Inc. (“FTS”), shares that are Nasdaq Listed Equity held in traditional brokerage accounts. FGRS is the blockchain-native version of FTS shares issued on the Provenance Blockchain for use in OPEN. FGRS shares are traded on the Figure ATS, rather than an exchange, such as NASDAQ. The two share classes offer the same exact underlying equity rights, but trade through different venues. This conversion process allows you to be able to move between the two venues, providing you the ability to use the features of Figure Markets, through its self-custodial platform..
How long does the whole process take?
The time required for your transfer varies based on your brokerage firm's processing speed, any additional required firm documentation, and the standard DTC settlement cycles. Most transfers move through swiftly (2-3 business days) once both sides are initiated and any paperwork is complete.
What if something goes wrong?
Please contact Figure Markets Support with your exchange request ID. Figure Markets can check against pending DTC settlements and help diagnose. Most issues are caused by mismatched receiving information; double-check that the information that you provided to your brokerage firm matches what Figure Markets displayed in-app.
Can I do this on mobile?
Yes. You can complete the full process on your mobile device using the Figure Markets web app. Any approvals are handled through the Figure Markets Mobile App. .
What you can do once your shares are FGRS
Moving your shares on-chain unlocks what they can do for you. As FGRS, your shares aren’t just sitting in an account – they can be put to work.
- Borrow against your holdings. Use your FGRS as collateral without selling your shares. Keep your equity position; access liquidity when you need it.
- Earn yield through Democratized Prime. Put your shares to work in Figure’s decentralized, lending marketplace, built on Provenance Blockchain. Democratized Prime is a peer-to-peer (P2P) decentralized lending marketplace, where asset owners are able to post their collateral to a DeFI protocol, allowing others to lend against that collateral. If you have a long position in Figure, you can lend FGRS in the FGRS Pool to short sellers looking to borrow the stock, in order to short it. In this way, the holder of the equity gets the benefit of those looking to borrow it rather than the prime broker.
- Hold and trade on-chain. Self-custody, programmatic atomic settlement, and access the broader on-chain ecosystem. Same equity, new rails. Plus, if you ever want to go back to traditional rails, the path is open. Move your FGRS back to FIGR whenever it makes sense for you.
